The Black Drop Coffeehouse

We like to have fun. We think we are funny and will do pretty much anything, even at our own expense, just for a laugh. From our tendency toward the ridiculous, a few [infamous] annual events have evolved:

ANTI VALENTINE’S DAY
PEEPFEST
DRENCH-O-RAMA
BLACK OUT AT THE BLACK DROP - Tune out, turn off, and DROP IN (coming soon)

All kidding aside, the coffee is where we roll up our sleeves and get down to business. We attend coffee trade shows several times a year (Fresh Cup Roadshow, aka NASCORE, SCAA ANNUAL CONVENTION, COFFEEFEST) and participate actively in trade organizations such as the Specialty Coffee Association of America, the Barista Guild of America, and Coffee Kids.

We take the coffee so damn seriously that we routinely dedicate a great deal of time and effort towards Barista Competitions, locally and internationally. Owner Alexarc Mastema is a certified NWRBC, USBC, and CBC barista judge who specializes in the technical nuances of perfect espresso extraction. It is to these standards that he trains our staff. Alexarc's partner, Teri Bryant is the Northwest Regional Representative for the Barista Guild of America, a revolutionary trade guild organizing to promote the interests of the erroneously considered "entry level" position of barista.

Locally, we participate in Bellingham’s Downtown Renaissance Network, working to build a dynamic downtown neighborhood.
